Karen’s career as a storyteller and reputation-builder is founded on a wide variety of experiences crafting communications strategies over two decades. She is known for her keen ability to create successful corporate positioning, especially for brands in transition, along with an expertise in identifying and championing thought leadership.
Currently she serves as an executive management consultant, providing strategic council, brand positioning and communications planning for a variety of companies, from late stage startups to more established entities such as Visible World, a Comcast owned company. She also works with WINGS Worldquest, a non-profit that showcases groundbreaking work of women scientists and explorers whose discoveries advance scientific inquiry.
Previously Karen was EVP, Global Chief Communications Officer of the FCB network, overseeing the repositioning of the agency and their communications plans. She successfully managed the realignment and repositioning across their global operations. Fifteen years of digital experience coupled with a strong background in communications means she has been deft at crafting agency identities and messaging that span cultures and time.
Prior to joining FCB, she served as the senior vice president, managing director of corporate communications/marketing for R/GA. For 12 years she had oversight of that agency’s global communications strategy and international expansion into Europe, Latin America and Asia. Karen broke new ground with social media initiatives and executing innovative communications tactics, evidenced in the successful repositioning of R/GA from a production house to a highly regarded full-service agency and thought leader in digital marketing. She has created partnerships with leading brands such as L’Oréal, Nike, MasterCard and Unilever to tell stories about innovative work and broaden the visibility of the agency that produced it.
Aside from her work at myriad interactive agencies, she has extensive exposure to other industries. Most notably she was responsible for promoting Valentino’s successful debut in the U.S. market and launching Murdoch Magazines’ first electronic publishing product in the travel sector. Her career began as a publicist within Edelman’s media group.
Karen was a board member of Social Media Advertising Consortium (SMAC) for multiple years and has been a member of the 4A’s Communications committee for eight years. She has a J.D. from the University of Santa Clara with a specialization in intellectual property and is an alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania.
