José P. Chan is a general manager, entrepreneur and educator that has spent 22+ years in the fashion retail and luxury goods sector having worked for Roberto Cavalli, Loro Piana, LVMH and Richemont.
He is the Vice President Business Development for CELECT, a retail technology firm founded at MIT. He has extensive international experience and has held positions in buying, design, marketing, merchandising, planning, production, corporate sales and general management. Additionally, he is an Assistant Professor at Parsons The New School For Design where he has taught Retailing, as well as Merchandising courses for 9+ years. He has also taught at the Fashion Institute of Technology and Hong Kong Polytechnic University. José is the Founder of the New York Fashion Retail Association — an innovative, professional industry forum that explores trends, opportunities and challenges that face the fashion and retail industry.
José has been invited to lecture on Retailing at various industry conferences, as well as Columbia University (CBS), Cornell University (Cornell Tech/FSAD), Fashion Institute of Technology (GFM), Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Sloan), New York University (Stern), The University of Navarra (IESE), Parsons the New School For Design and The University of Rochester (Simon). A native New Yorker, José is fluent in Spanish, Italian and is conversant in French.
